Centros appoints King Sturge on the second phase of Coppergate extension

01 July 2008

200,000 ft² Coppergate Shopping Centre in York

Regeneration specialist Centros, the development manager for the second phase of Coppergate in York, has appointed the architects and professional advisers to the scheme. CZWG and Holder Mathias will collaborate on designs for the scheme, while property consultants King Sturge will provide both leasing/development consultancy and planning advice.

At the beginning of February LaSalle Investment Management bought the 200,000 ft² Coppergate Shopping Centre from Land Securities for around £43 million and appointed Centros as development manager to work on this phase of the scheme.

In the next few months, Centros will commence discussions with York City Council over initial designs for a mixed-use scheme in the area of the city bounded by Piccadilly, Coppergate and Clifford’s Tower. The scheme is likely to include retail, leisure and residential uses.

Centros aims to achieve a high-quality and sensitive development proposal that will complement the historic setting and provide a strong retail attraction in its own right.
