King Sturge Plant and Machinery team secured a unique disposal instruction

Following a successful plant and machinery auction last week at which telehandlers achieved excellent figures, the Manchester Plant and Machinery team secured a unique disposal instruction to sell on behalf of an insolvency client an original work of art.  The piece, a self-portrait by Ian Humphreys, signed and dated 1986, is in coloured chalk and measures 29½in x 31¾in.

The artist who was born in Hertfordshire in 1956 studied at Exeter College of Art gaining a BA Hons (in Fine Art Painting in 1979). He now lives and works on Heir Island, West Cork.   His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.

Examples of his work are in many private and public collections including Allied Irish Bank, Burma Castrol, British Rail Board, Glaxo Smith Kline, Trinity College University of Cambridge.

Gary Harper, instructed to sell the piece, comments “it is a striking and somewhat haunting portrait and whilst not to everyone’s taste I expect it to generate excellent interest through the online auction sale”.
