Our people - inc. health and safety
King Sturge is committed to making its business a great place to work. Fellowship is a core value allowing everyone to enjoy what they do through a positive and supportive working environment. It is committed to having in place policies, procedures and measures to ensure its people, suppliers and business partners also understand its commitment. King Sturge is committed to attracting and retaining the best people, providing career development and training in a professional and supportive environment. It works to ensure the health, safety and welfare of its people - including visitors, tenants and contractors - as far as is reasonably practicable.
King Sturge was the only property consultancy in the top 50 of The Sunday Times Top 100 Firms to Work For 2004 and has been recognised as an Investor In People since 1998. These awards recognise our commitment to our employees - both in terms of their development and their well-being. That commitment is a fundamental element of our culture.
The firm's slogan, "Our people make the difference", goes further than the service we provide to our clients as a business. It supports the individuality and enthusiasm our employees bring to the community and our wider environment.
Training and Career Development
King Sturge places a considerable emphasis on career development and training for employees at all levels and disciplines within the firm and strives to provide a professional and supportive environment in which to work. By providing training and career development opportunities, we aim to ensure that all employees possess the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to perform their jobs to the highest standards and to develop their careers to their full potential, consistent with the business goals and objectives of the firm. Our training plan is directly linked to the overall strategic direction of the firm, as is our promotion policy, which is also linked with employees’ performance and potential and is discussed in the annual Performance and Career Development Review.
In order to facilitate this, we invest considerable resources in a wide variety of training and career development initiatives, both internally and through external providers.
Our training programme includes CSR matters. In addition our annual Performance and Career Development Reviews incorporate our CSR Pillars.
Communication with our Employees
We communicate with our employees through both informal and formal means. King Sturge has an extensive intranet, which gives daily information to all employees on a wide range of issues from policies and procedures to current news and business deals.
In addition, each department and office runs formal meetings with their teams on a regular basis. These provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and the dissemination of information from the various Management Boards at King Sturge.
We also receive regular feedback from our employees at all levels through the Investors In People process as well as through Business Development review lunches. The Performance and Career Development Review provides a formal meeting with direct line managers to discuss progression and achievement of objectives.
Equal Opportunities
It is the policy of King Sturge to select for both employment and promotion on the basis of individual merit, qualifications and competence and not to be influenced by any applicants' ethnic origin, sex, age or physical disability. Foreign Nationals may be considered for employment equally with UK citizens provided the King Sturge Human Resources department confirms that visas and work permits are in order or may be obtained or, in the case of EU Nationals, are either necessary or appropriate.
Health & Safety
King Sturge and its associated companies are committed to ensuring the health, safety and welfare of its employees, so far as it is reasonably practicable. We fully accept our responsibility for visitors, contractors, tenants and others who may be affected by our activities. We take steps to ensure that our duties under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and other related statutes are met at all times.
Policies and arrangements for health, safety and welfare are made available to all employees and regularly monitored to ensure that the objectives of our policies are being met.
They are regularly reviewed and updated to take into account new or changed regulations and organisational changes within King Sturge.
As consultants and advisors we also take seriously our responsibility for the management of health and safety issues relating to work on our clients' properties.
As a firm we have dedicated support from specialist health and safety consultants, AIMS. They provide support to both our own business and to our managed portfolios, including advice on statutory changes and training needs.
The compliance with Statutory Regulations and good health and safety practice underpins our standard asset management procedures, and includes the two key pieces of legislation taking full effect in 2004; The Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2002 and Disability Discrimination Act 1995.
Our asset management team uses a specialist web-based database for the monitoring of health and safety issues on all managed properties. Known as 'Trackrecord', the system provides a diary function for all critical activities, monitors compliance of requirements, and provides electronic archiving of all relevant documentation.
